The Partnership of Quiet and Joy


Any Grace Space we enter will not only need the fuel of joy, but also the renewal of quiet. As we navigate the space between what we believe and what we experience daily, peace and quiet are as essential as the times of joy that we talked about in last month’s coaching focus.

Our world is full of sounds and sensory input that seem to increase continually. The sounds of society often drown out the rhythms of the natural world and a weariness creeps into our senses that we don’t even realize is there.

Peace and joy are the ebb and flow of relationship with God. Just as joy can rush into our lives, quiet is the ebb that allows us to contemplate and establish what we’ve received during times of tangible joy and presence.

Joy is still fully present in times of stillness, just as God’s presence is. It’s just present differently. Sometimes when the flow shifts, we can think something’s wrong, when really God is allowing us to practice our awareness of Him in a different way. That’s important so that we can experience a relational connection with Him no matter what life throws at us!

So, as we’re practicing joy in Grace Spaces and in our book club this month for Joyful Intentionality, we also want to grow in our capacity for quiet and stillness. When joy and peace ebb and flow together, just like the tides, we are far more resilient when the Grace Spaces of our lives become evident.

Joy is a way of being with God,
fueled by His joy in being with us - at all times.

So how can we return that place of joy no matter what is occurring in our lives? That’s what we will experience together in this Joy Exploration. We’ll look at Joy through the lens of relationally reconnecting with joy in the midst of life’s challenges.

Through small group dialogue, practice, opportunities and Questions for Jesus, there’s a new experience of joy waiting for us!

This month, Grace Spaces donated a significant amount to Hope Steps Now. This non-profit has four homes that provide independent living combined with spiritual and practical support for women getting back on their feet.

Allison personally visits and gets to know these dear ladies, coming alongside them on their journey. She’s pictured below with women previously in the maternity home that provides a safe environment and resources before and after the birth of their children. (Photo used with permission)

The leader of Hope Steps is a former inmate herself, who Allison met while ministering many years ago in prison. You can read Viola’s story in The Higher Call, one of our free resources. One beautiful part of this continuing story is that Viola is currently in the process of her record being expunged, completely erased - just as Jesus did in the spirit so many years ago!
