Grace Spaces Newsletter June 2023

Seeing our present through the lens of our eternal future can bring hope, value and comfort when not much makes sense.

When a Grace Space opens up around the “whys” of life or our purpose and worth, one of the best questions we can ask God is: “Help me see this and see myself from Your perspective.”

Our recent Explorations groups just finished a deep dive into Eternal Perspective - one of our six “Navigating Grace Spaces” coaching focuses. Each member brought such authenticity and wisdom to our time together (Thank you!) So we wanted to share some of our discoveries!

The Power of Eternal Perspective

Eternal Perspective Brings Healing

Healing may not come in understanding all the answers to our questions. It may come in Jesus coming and being with us right where we are and saying with tears, “I remember what you’re going through. It hurts. It’s big. Thank you for letting Me share it with you.”

What heals us is what we come to remember most: Who God was for us. He was glad to be with us even if no one else was.

What if in eternity, that’s included in our story: how we responded to Him in our pain and how much that meant for us to trust Him with the things we didn’t understand on earth?

Eternal Perspective is a Compass for Choices

“What should I do?” Is one of life’s great questions. When faced with that question, we want to make a choice that goes beyond the here and and now. We want to make choices that God can say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” to at the end of the age.

How does that happen? By valuing what God values.

And what does He value most? Love. Love God, love people.(Matthew 22:36-40)

Think about it. The only thing that makes the jump from this life to the next is people. Jesus gave everything to redeem our relationship with Him. God is precious to us. People are precious to Him - so people need to be precious to us too. More precious than our achievements, accolades or ministry.

It is our “why” that has eternal value, not our “what.” So when it’s time to make choices, we want to choose what will have eternal value to Him. (Matthew 7:22-24)

When we stand at a crossroads, we can ask Jesus: “What is in this that has value to You?” Then follow the compass of 1 Corinthians 13 love in how you do it.

Then no matter how seen or unseen we are in this life, we can rejoice in the treasure of our loving relationship with God and others now and through all eternity.

Processing questions are good, but questions for Jesus open up wonderful, relational conversations with Him that are truly transformational. He loves our questions and we practice them in our community all the time!

Here’s some that we asked in our Eternal Perspective Exploration:

Jesus, I know that experience left hurts and scars. Can we look at that again through Your eyes?
How did You see me as I went through that?
What did you feel that I wasn’t aware of?
What would you say to me now about that time?
Which choices did I make that have eternal value to You?
“I have a decision to make. What do You value most here in me, in others and in this situation?”
“What did I do this week that You’ll remember with a smile?”
